Blue Car Rental's Reykjavik City Office is at Fiskislod 22 in the harbor district. This guide concerns that city branch, not the separate Keflavik Airport office at Blikavollur 3. Book the correct collection location first, then compare staffed pickup, key-box conditions and the return branch shown on your agreement.

Urgent assistanceOperator advertises 24/7 customer serviceThis is support, not a 24-hour staffed city counter

The opening-hours page says after-hours city collection must be arranged at least one hour before office closing and gives 17:00 as the deadline. Online check-in must be completed before the office closes. Do not interpret the 06:00-21:00 key-box window as permission to arrive unannounced with an incomplete booking.

The operator says customers who add Liability Waiver can choose key-box collection during online check-in. That eligibility condition matters when comparing the base rental price with a contactless pickup. Keep the confirmation and actual key instructions accessible before leaving your hotel.

Getting to the correct office

The city address is Fiskislod 22, 101 Reykjavik. The operator describes it as a short walk from Midbakki harbor and an approximately ten-minute drive from Skarfabakki. Those are different harbor locations: cruise passengers should check their berth rather than use a generic Reykjavik-harbor walking estimate.

The airport branch is at Blikavollur 3, 235 Keflavik Airport and follows different seasonal staffed hours. Its 24-hour key-box availability is not the Reykjavik city's schedule. If your reservation says KEF, visiting the city counter does not automatically change the booked branch.

The site says city pickup itself is free of charge. That does not establish a free taxi, hotel delivery or one-way return. Read the quote and agreement for location changes or drop-off fees. If returning at the airport, allow the drive, vehicle handover and airline formalities in addition to your city departure time.

Eligibility and documents

The terms require a driver aged at least twenty who has held a valid licence for at least one year and presents it when signing. The same clause sets twenty-three for a large SUV or the passenger-car category named in the agreement. Because that latter label is broad, check the actual selected vehicle rather than generalizing that every car is available at twenty.

Only registered drivers should drive. The agreement makes the renter responsible from collection until Blue signs the vehicle as returned. Bring the original licence and the payment/security card required by your booking; paying through a voucher or third party does not remove the security-imprint requirement.

The terms describe a credit/debit card imprint for extra charges, fines, damage and other contractual costs. This is not a promise that every debit card or cardholder arrangement will be accepted. Confirm your exact card type and any required waiver before travel if you do not have the standard card setup.

Vehicle suitability and the rental agreement

The operator can substitute a similar or upgraded vehicle if the reserved type is not available. A model photograph does not independently guarantee that exact model. Compare actual seats, luggage, transmission and route permission, especially if carrying large bags or equipment.

The agreement prohibits standard cars on mountain/highland roads marked F. Permission depends on the vehicle and contract, not simply on having bought additional insurance. Read the selected vehicle's restrictions before planning remote roads; off-road driving is a separate issue from using an allowed gravel road.

Mandatory liability/accident insurance is included according to the agreement. Additional protection and waivers have their own exclusions. Do not interpret a reduced liability figure as coverage for every act, road, damage type or recovery cost.

Price comparison and cancellation

The agreement sets a minimum charge equivalent to 48 hours even if the car is used for less. It also says a drop-off one hour or more after the pickup time counts as another full day. Compare the complete start/end times rather than multiplying a daily headline by calendar dates.

Rate typeCancellation position in current agreement
RefundableFull refund when cancelled more than 24 hours before pickup
Non-refundableFull rental price remains non-refundable
No-show or cancellation within 24 hoursFull price charged
Early returnNo automatic refund for unused hire

Changes need written confirmation and depend on availability. The opening-hours FAQ says a late arrival does not automatically cancel the booking, but the return time remains unchanged; notify the team. A delayed start therefore should not be assumed to extend your rental without charge.

Return checklist

Use the branch and time on the agreement, restore the required fuel/charge level and return the supplied accessories. Record condition at handover and follow the operator's process for damage or incidents. For an out-of-hours return, get the exact parking/key-box procedure in advance rather than assuming dropping keys ends every responsibility immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the Keflavik Airport office?

No. This listing is Fiskislod 22 in Reykjavik. The airport branch is Blikavollur 3 and has a different schedule.

Can I collect at 06:00?

The city key-box window starts 06:00, but requires advance arrangement, online check-in and the stated Liability Waiver condition.

Is city collection available 24/7?

The published staffed window is 08:00-18:00 and key-box pickup 06:00-21:00. 24-hour support is not 24-hour city collection.

Are all bookings refundable?

No. The rate selected at booking controls; non-refundable bookings are explicitly excluded from the general early-cancellation refund.

City collection, airport return and the full price

The fresh agreement names a one-way charge of ISK 4,900 specifically when collecting at Reykjavik City Office and returning at Keflavik Airport. That is directional wording, not evidence that the reverse direction has the same charge. Compare the combined rental, protection, one-way fee and any late-return cost rather than assuming airport return is included in a city quote. Rental agreement.

The contact page confirms 08:00-18:00 city-office hours every day, year-round, with city key-box pickup 06:00-21:00. The airport has different seasonal hours and a separate 24-hour key-box arrangement; those airport facilities do not extend the city's window. On 2 November the airport's published winter period began, but this remains a Reykjavik branch guide. Both offices.

Complete and confirm key-box arrangements before staff close, including the required online check-in and Liability Waiver. The opening-hours page's city footnote uses 17:00 while its main city block and contact page say 18:00; ask the team for the applicable arrangement deadline rather than interpret the footnote as a guaranteed extra hour. A late collection does not extend the contracted return time. Key-box requirements.

For driver eligibility, the agreement gives a baseline minimum age of 20 with a licence held one year, but uses the ambiguous phrase "large size SUV or a passenger car" for the age-23 rule. Confirm the actual vehicle category in writing. The guide does not silently translate that phrase into every car or only passenger vans. Eligibility wording.
