Location

Tjarnagata 12, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland

Tjarnarbíó is a theatre and events venue at Tjarnagata 12, 101 Reykjavík, beside the city pond. It hosts independent professional performing artists and groups, with theatre, dance and other live events across its programme.

Choosing a performance

The venue describes a main stage and a smaller café stage, so check the location on your ticket. Its institutional page describes a normal season from late August to late June; the current programme is the place to confirm individual dates rather than assuming a daily performance.

If you do not speak Icelandic, use the dedicated non-Icelandic-speaking events page. The venue identifies performances in other languages or without text, but that does not mean every production has English dialogue or subtitles. Read the specific event description and ask the box office if language access is central to your choice.

Tickets and contact

Tickets are sold through the event links to Tix.is or by contacting midasala@tjarnarbio.is. Call +354 527 2100, with telephone service published for weekdays 13:00–17:00 and one hour before events. The English visitor page describes weekend box-office opening one hour before a performance.

Use the event’s actual start time. General examples of common performance times are not a substitute for the date and time on the booking. Prices vary between productions, and house discounts do not necessarily apply to guest events.

Arrival and access

The homepage recommends allowing time for city-centre parking and identifies the City Hall and Hafnartorg garages as options. These are parking suggestions, not a guarantee of a space or an included parking charge.

The theatre describes wheelchair access to the foyer and audience area, with staff assistance to find a suitable position. Tell the box office about a wheelchair when booking. Accessible parking is described opposite the theatre. This is the venue’s published account, not an independently measured accessibility assessment.

Tjarnarbarinn opens in the evening one hour before events and serves drinks and snacks. Do not assume it has an all-day schedule on a date without a performance.

Read the booking conditions

The ticket page says children require their own paid tickets and cannot sit on an adult’s lap. Phone and camera use during performances is prohibited unless expressly allowed.

Its terms distinguish several situations: cancellation of an event provides a comparable alternative or a ticket refund; a rescheduled date carries a seven-day refund-request window after notification; the general withdrawal route is within 14 days of purchase only when at least 14 days remain before the event. Gift-card and group purchases have exclusions. Another clause says a ticket is treated as used if not cancelled at least 24 hours before the performance; that clause should not be read as a blanket promise of a refund.

If you may need to change a booking, ask the box office which provision applies before paying. The ticket page is the operative source for the venue’s published conditions.
