Sky Lagoon is an oceanfront geothermal spa on the Kársnes peninsula in Kópavogur, in Iceland’s Capital Region. Both standard passes include the Skjól ritual; the main upgrade is privacy in the changing facilities. For planning, check your admission time, the ritual’s earlier closing time, and your return transport together. Researched by Iceland.org · Sources checked 1 November 2026. This is an independent, source-based visitor guide, not an on-site review or an endorsement by Sky Lagoon. Prices and policies below are dated snapshots; the operator’s booking confirmation governs your visit.

Who can enter?Ages 12+. Guests aged 12–14 need a supervising guardian aged 18+ and proof of age.

What is the current winter schedule?10:00–21:00, 21 October–30 April, subject to exceptions. The ritual closes at 20:00; leave the water by 20:30.

Saman or Sér: what are you paying for?

Choose Saman if shared changing facilities suit you. Choose Sér if a private changing room, shower and vanity are important. Sér does not buy a different main lagoon or a different ritual.

Standard admissionAdult starting priceYouth starting price, ages 12–14Changing facilities
SamanISK 14,990ISK 7,495Shared changing area; shower cubicles
SérISK 17,990ISK 8,995Private changing, shower and vanity; body lotion and reusable swimwear bag

Both include admission, one Skjól journey and a towel. These are advertised “from” rates checked in ISK on 1 November 2026, not a quote for your chosen date. Check the final price and inclusions before paying. Transfers and food packages should be compared separately. Budget calculation: at those starting rates, Sér adds ISK 3,000 per adult or ISK 1,500 per youth. Two adult entries start at ISK 29,980 for Saman or ISK 35,980 for Sér, before transport and extras. These totals are our arithmetic, not additional operator packages. Check standard passes and book directly

Opening hours: plan around the ritual, not just the doors

The lagoon’s published closing time is later than the ritual’s cutoff. A late visit can leave less usable time than the headline hours suggest.

Spring: 1 May–20 June10:00–22:0021:0021:30

Autumn: 21 August–20 October09:00–22:0021:0021:30

The final two columns are calculated from the operator’s one-hour and 30-minute cutoff rules. This is not a last-admission timetable; use the actual booking calendar for entry slots. The operator currently lists holiday exceptions: 24 December 09:00–18:00; 25 December 09:00–20:00; 26 December 11:00–22:00; 31 December 09:00–20:00; 1 January 09:00–22:00. Recheck these for your travel year. Our winter planning example: a 17:00 admission gives a three-hour window before the 20:00 ritual cutoff. That window includes arrival formalities, changing and any wait. Decide how much margin you want; do not interpret it as a promised three-hour ritual or a guarantee of immediate access. The live hours page showed 09:00 summer opening when checked; some cached search results still showed 08:00. Follow the live operator page and your confirmation. Verify seasonal and holiday hours

What happens in the current seven-step Skjól ritual?

Skjól connects seven named experiences. The operator currently names Saft, a crowberry drink, as the final step. Use its current sequence when comparing guides that list a shower as step seven.

StepIcelandic nameWhat it is
1LaugWarm lagoon
2KuldiCold plunge
3YlurSauna, with classic and phone-free options
4SúldCold mist
5MýktBody scrub
6GufaSteam room
7SaftCrowberry elixir

The operator lists approximately 38–40°C for the lagoon, 5°C for the plunge, 80–90°C for the sauna and 46°C for the steam room. These are different environments, not one continuous-temperature bath. Ingredient checks matter: the scrub contains almond and sesame oils. Saft is also a drink with ingredients to check, rather than simply water. If a product or temperature is unsuitable for you, discuss participation with the operator before booking. We do not make medical-benefit claims for the ritual. Getting there: choose the whole return journey

Use Vesturvör 44, Kópavogur for navigation. Parking is free, with no stated time limit; EV charging stations are available. The operator estimates roughly 13 minutes from central Reykjavík and 45 minutes from Keflavík Airport by car. Treat these as estimates, not flight-connection allowances. Public bus: the operator describes route 4 from Hlemmur to Hamraborg, then 35 or 36 to Bakkabraut, followed by a walk to Vesturvör and the lagoon. Verify the current service and your last return connection with Strætó, especially for an evening visit. Published driving times do not describe a bus journey with waiting and walking. Airport transfer: the official FAQ says to select Hamraborg when booking the Flybus stop, then complete the local journey. This is a connection, not a direct airport-to-lagoon shuttle. The Reykjavík transfer sold with admission is a separate option; read its pickup point and return instructions before buying. Our itinerary check: compare ticket + outward transport + return transport as one plan. For a flight day, add your own margin for baggage, airport procedures and disruption; a 45-minute driving estimate is not the full airport journey. Accessibility and changing-room privacy

Sky Lagoon’s accessibility page describes a private Accessibility Suite, lifts for the lagoon, cold plunge and turf house, and an on-site wheelchair for the ritual. It also describes private changing options and asks guests to speak to staff at check-in about their needs. A useful next step is to contact the team about your particular transfer, shower, mobility-aid or companion requirements. Confirm the facility you need, availability for your slot, and any pass or companion arrangements; do not assume “wheelchair accessible” answers every individual question. Questions to send before booking: Can the available lift support my transfer method? Which changing space should I request? Can my companion accompany me through each stage? Do I need to reserve equipment? We have not physically tested the accessible route or independently verified current lift availability. Operator accessibility information · Contact the team

What to bring, lockers and food

Bring swimwear. Towels are included; swimsuits can be rented or purchased. The operator does not supply robes or slippers. A wristband controls your locker and records purchases. Oversized luggage storage is advertised at ISK 990; ask reception what applies to your bags. Shower with soap without swimwear before entering, then wear suitable swimwear in the lagoon and ritual. Phones and cameras are prohibited in changing rooms and showers; respect other guests’ privacy elsewhere. For food, Smakk Bar serves tasting platters, Keimur Café offers lighter meals, and Gelmir Bar is in the water. Smakk lists vegan and gluten-free options, but that does not establish allergy-safe preparation. Check current ingredients with staff. Wear full clothing in Smakk and Keimur. Smakk opens at noon; keep its earlier finish in mind if dining after a late swim. Facilities FAQ · Luggage and contact information · Restaurants and menus · Visitor rules

Cancellation, late arrival and re-entry

For direct bookings of 1–10 guests, the current policy allows changes or refunds requested at least 24 hours before the booked time. The FAQ requires cancellation by email to reservations@skylagoon.is. Larger-group notice periods are longer; check the full terms. A reseller’s booking may have its own cancellation process. Arrive for the booked slot. The operator does not guarantee admission for late arrivals. Leaving after entry invalidates the ticket, so plan food, luggage and transport before checking out. A practical booking checklist

  1. Check the whole group first. Confirm ages and any access or changing-room requirements before choosing a time.
  2. Choose the date before comparing prices. Use the quoted total for that visit, then decide whether private changing is worth the difference to you.
  3. Work backwards from the ritual cutoff. Leave room for arrival, changing, the experience and dinner if wanted.
  4. Plan the return as carefully as the arrival. A bus, booked transfer and taxi have different constraints.
  5. Save the confirmation and cancellation deadline. Recheck live hours close to the visit, particularly on holidays or special-event dates.
